"Karaoke"

I felt rested enough on Thursday that i tried a new karaoke spot.  My initial impression of the venue was that as soon as i walked in i wanted to turn and walk out.

First i wanted to tell you that i took the bus there just to find out that it was nearly a mile and a half walk in pitch black to get there.  A seriously mentally ill man and a very drunk man, got off at my stop and didn't seem to have anywhere to go so i felt very unsafe.

I did make it o.k. after many looks over my shoulder.

The bar was very dark, my vision is poor.  The floor had many tiny steps and uneven-ness i had to hang on to walls and pillars to make sure i didnt fall.

Surprisingly, it was a country bar and i was concerned that i would only b able to sing country.  But i put it a request to do a rock song and they had it.

My first song was

"don't stop believin'"  it went over very well
then
"crazy" by p.cline
"funkytown"
"first time ever i saw ur face"

and one duet.

Made a couple of new friends and as per usual it was "soul renewing" to b up on stage using my "god" given gift!  ;)

"What are the odds of THAT?!"

So, last night was my first time out for karaoke where i am required by my landlord to stay dry.  Normally, i will drink one to three mixed drinks in the hope that it will kill enough of the excruciating fibromyalgia pain that i can dance a little.  Now, even if i do drink, the pain is excruciating when i dance.  Going out crippled me up to the point, where i couldn't even leave the house yesterday.

But last night, it was excruciating times 100 because i have no pain mediciations at all.  Now, even when i do drink, i'm not drunk-so the only difference is more physical pain.

Last night was largely a wash out with the d.j. playing the music at particularly deafening levels and many really bad singers.  Not as friendly a crowd as usual, but did meet about 4 or 5 friendly folks, and exchanged numbers with Jeanette*

Now, what are the odds of meeting Jeanette?  Oh, about 1 in 35, 000.  Because it turns out that she is the person who is moving into the room that i just moved out of, so she "could feel me" in that i am now living under prohibition again.

I only got to do one performance but the feedback was wonderful.  Funkytown!

"Karaoke and Dance Night"

Although i am wracked with pain and only sleep a few minutes a night, i suspected that if i could get myself over to karaoke i would not regret it.

The minute i "crossed the threshold" i knew i made the right decision.  It was packed with dancers and singers from every walk of life and from all over the world.

I met a group from Sydney

a group from Melbourne

a group of Brits

a group from seattle

a guy from alabama

a 21 year old hawaiian celebrating her birthday.......

I danced alot and sang just 3 songs.  Made amazing connections.  Danced til close and went to bed at 4 a.m. with a huge smile on my face.

the feed back i got from being on stage (i always dance when i get up to sing)

you were solid gold

you were money

what a stage presence

love those dance moves

love your energy

what a voice.

(btw, i was wracked with pain the entire night i was out)

I can only remember 2 of the 3 songs i did

car wash
and mad world by gary jules

The last time i had a night out like this was a year and a half ag.
btw the group from sydney asked me if i would like to travel with them!  I told them i was honored and would love that but i'm a tad tied down right now

"I finally made karaoke night"

I hadn't been in 2 months.  Even though it's free, I can't go unless I have cab fare home.  There were some good parts and some real heavy parts.

This was the most talent I've seen under one roof at a karaoke night.  That's unusual.  By the end of the evening there were about 100 folks, and 10 had drop your jaw talent.  That was very refreshing.  Unfortunately I was one of the only dancers.  It's more fun when lots of folks dance.

The weird part of the night was that 2 of my acquaintances from past karaokes, sat at my table.  One is chronically suicidal, and the other always had a sad sack story.  In fact the one, he goes by "Reverend" was riding his bike to karaoke when he got hit by a jeep!  H was unconscious for an hour, but still shoed up!  I understand that spirit, in that one time in 2000 I was the vic. of a serious crime, but I didn't make a report because it meant I would have missed performer's coffeehouse.

Well, the whole night I'm suspecting he has a concussion but I don't want to play babysitter.  I had 2 bartenders and the bouncer keep an eye on him, but it was a downer to have him at my table, indeed!

Anywho, I sang:

car wash
funkytown
angel (arms of an)
in da club and
New York New York by Sinatra!  This went over very well and I got a standing ovation!
