Strong women

I saw the majority of the story not the entire story but I saw an off of it to really get a grasp of it and for the first time ever to learn of the finale. You know I've been writing about strong women ever since I started this blog. Despite Joan being the opposite of me in that she is a very religious woman she is still a strong woman none the less a strong woman who should definitely be celebrated and who apparently has been celebrated ever since

I also watch this presentation with the knowledge that I am 50% French and this is why you see my French name on one of my email addresses is Elana  Rebecca  duchane. This is most likely the way my name appears on my original birth certificate which I have never seen, because I have to pay for it and I have not come up with the money, also because I need to petition the courts before I am allowed to have my OBC sent to me.

Here is the link to the amazing life story of Joan of Arc

"What they want you to remember"

Reading between the lines.  So many times people are telling you xyz but they don't realize that they are sending a totally different message through their non verbals.

In this instance, I just read an article in Redbook (free magazine area at library) about Jada Pinkett Smith.

They take away is supposed to be the importance of friends and family.

But what i'll always remember about the article is:

(and I will paraphrase here)

Jada and a girlfriend were hanging out on North Avenue in Baltimore.  She just cashed her check then immediately got mugged.  She chased down the assailant armed with a switchblade!

Redbook asked Pinkett how mom reacted when she said she wanted to go to Hollywood.  The mother said something to the effect of: "You might as well, stay here and you might get killed!"

"Venus"

I have seen this woman on television twice now. Once on the Ellen Degeneres show, and once on Jay Leno. She was Miss America in '44 ish. Now she's about 82. Have you heard about this woman? On Leno, she said something to the effect of "Well, I shot the tires instead of shooting the men, or I would have gone to prison."

I love that!

So the story is that Venus lives on a farm. One day, 2 men were stealing supplies out of her shed. She drives over, blocks them in with her truck, and shoots out the tires! (I have a special affinity for strong women!)

So, Jay Leno asks her what skills she used during the Miss America contest. She says: "I sang and danced, you know I shake a mean hip!"

Leno-"So, who taught you how to shoot?!"

Venus-"I'M FROM KENTUCKY!"
